Norwegian jazz is a world renowned brand name and this band can take some of the credit. Motif is one of the far north´s most vibrant groups right now.
After ten years on the road Motif have established a high profile, and have played at countless festivals over the whole world such as Kongsbergjazz, Moldejazz, Melbourne Jazz festival, and Toronto Jazz festival. They have had gigs in Germany, Serbia, Canada, Portugal, China, Japan and Nepal. Motif is an experimental jazz band who perform a mixture of improvised jazz with elements of both pop music and free impro/avantgarde; music at the crossroads of afro-american and European styles.
The band has an impressive track record and has performed with international stars such as Chick Korea, Lee Konitz and Kenny Wheeler. At the same time they have maintained their profile in Norway working with artists such as Terje Rypdal, Jan Garbarek Quartet, Bugge Wesseltoft and Sidsel Endresen.
It was the bass player Ole Morten Vågan who took the initiative and formed the band back in 1999.
