The multi-talented Elina Waage Mikalsen is invited back to the Arctic Arts Festival for her own gig with Blood Forest Family. The Indierock-band with Elina´s distinctive vocals, distinguished themselves at last year´s festival in the collective performance ”Det er et helvete å ha armer…”.
Blood Forest Family has popped up in Tromsø´s music mileau as a breath of fresh air during the last few years. Their music is characterised by playful, atmospheric, alternative pop.
Vocalist Elina Waage Mikalsen was last year given the honour of being chosen as Young Artist of the Year at the Riddu Riđđu Festival; a status that led to an invitation to take part in the Arctic Arts Festival´s programme.
- We were delighted that it was actually Elina Waage Mikalsen who was chosen as Riddu´s Young Artist of the Year, and that she is coming to perform for us with her band. She is an exciting artist and we look forward to becoming more acquainted with both Elina and Blood Forest Family in the future, states festival director Maria Utsi.
Elina Waage Mikalsen (23) from Tromsø is both Norwegian and Sámi and utilises the theme of identity in her work. She creates art and music which is perceived as contemporary, yet which takes its starting point from coastal Sámi culture and history. In addition to being a vocalist in Blood Forest Family, Elina is a very versatile and creative young artist who experiments both with art film, sculpture, drawings, text and sound/video-installation. She is studying at the Nordland Art and Film School in Kabelvåg.
Blood Forest Family has a complete soundscape which emphasises melody. Two guitars, two synths and a tight rhythm section surround Elina Waage Mikalsen´s soulful voice. The band has been together for just over two years and was picked by and played on the national radio channel NRK P3. The band is currently working on a new release for 2016.
