The Sámi elektropop artist Ágy conquered radio-Norway this winter, and is all set for the Arctic Arts Festival.
Ágy, and Agnete Båtnes Braaten from Nordreisa are the hippest young stars from the north this winter, and Ágy is already familiar to NRK P3 listeners through the song ”Arvedávgi (Rainbow)”. It all started when NRK P3 announced that Sámi music was not of a high enough standard for the radio channel. Ágy´s new single was sent to the programme Urørt and became an immediate hit, simultaneously puncturing the head of P3´s earlier pronouncement.
The elektronika artist combines both the English and Sámi languages in her pop/elektronika songs. She writes tunes with a contemporary edgy flavour, lacing them with passages containing traditional joik. Ágy´s electronic sound is based upon powerful melodies, hypnotic rhythms and harmonic antics. Àgyworld places the listener at the crossroads of electropop and Sámi elements.
”Arvedávgi (Rainbow)” is a song that captures a moment in time, and is beautifully produced both vocally and melodically. The song is about seeking a fresh lease of life, strength and belonging. It is produced by Herman Rundberg. The music video was directed by Carl Christian Lein Størmer and filmed on an iPhone 6.
Ágy also released the single ”Supercrush” and the ”Arvedávgi EP” last Autumn. In addition to enthusiastic support from the national radio Ágy had success in 2013 with the tune ”Hjerterått”, which she wrote for the NRK Super-TV series with the same title. The 23 year old has already been active in the music business for a decade.
