When Elias Narendran won the guitar class at the Young Masters´ Concourse last Autumn the prize was a recital at the Arts Festival of North Norway. We greatly look forward to welcoming this young guitar talent from Oppegård to our Breathing Space concert series at Galleri NordNorge. Elias is already becoming known for his mature interpretations of guitar classics.
Elias Narendran is 17 years of age and comes from Kolbotn to the south of Oslo. In november 2014 he burst onto the scene at the YMC in the guitar class. This is a yearly classical music contest for musicians under 26 years of age, coordinated by Norsk Kulturskoleråd, Musikkpedagogene Norge and Norges Musikkorps Forbund.
Elias began performing on the guitar when he was 10 and is now in his second year of the music course at Ski Videregående School with guitar as his main instrument and piano as B instrument. He also gained entry to the talent development programme at Norges Musikkhøgskole.
Elias first picked up an electric guitar at age 6 and classical guitar when he was 8. Through all these years he has been a pupil of Roy H. Snyen at the Cultural School in Oppegård. Elias hopes to begin studies at Norges Musikkhøgskole after completing videregående and looks forward to an international career.
- Ever since I began to play guitar life has never been boring. I get a good feeling from playing the instrument and find it difficult to put down. Guitar (both electric guitar and classical) has always been my first priority. This was Elias´ pitch in his application for a Kulturskolerådet Dream Stipend.
During the Norwegian guitar festival at Tonheim Folkehøgskole a few years ago he met up with guitar masters Marcin Dylla from Poland, Lorenzi Micheli from Italy and Matt Palmer from the USA. At Tonheim gifted pupils, students and professional guitarists from all over the country meet for four days to listen to and study with international stars.
