    The Arctic Arts Festival has selected scenographer Mari Lotherington (28) and artist Silje Halstensen (26) as the festival profiles of 2017.

    The Arctic Arts Festival will focus on the locals of the North in the annual Festival Exhibition, and has asked the director of Northern Norway Art Museum, Jérémie Michael McGowan, and director of Anchorage Museum, Julie Decker, to curate the exhibition.

    The visual artist Shwan Dler Qaradaki draws upon issues of identity, belonging and the challenges of asylum and settlement of refugees in his work. For these reasons Arctic Arts Festival asked him to mount our Festival Exhibition in 2016. The former refugee from Kurdistan in northern Iraq has gained extensive recognition for his community based work, and for its relevance to current political debates.

    Our festival profiles in 2016 will be the dance company Kartellet and artist/composer Benjamin Mørk. They will be popping up where you least expect them with a sense of playfulness, artful movement and dance, plus electronic beat!
