Experience the true joy of choral singing and Sámi pride, as the choir Sámi Jienat invites you to a choral-joik concert exploring five different Sámi languages!
The choir presents the rich tapestry that makes up joik and song from the various Sámi territories in the north. They have collected and redefined forgotten and little known traditional vocal treasures from the entire Sápmi region.
Each performance by Sámi Jienat is a unique project, as the choir prepares relevant joiks and languages from the local area where they give their concert. The choir has created a whole new genre of choral-joik, since it was founded in 2002 and has combined joik in its traditional form with choral arrangements which have redefined joik as a contemporary musical form. The choir has up to 30 members of all ages, who bear forth their love of joik together with an energy which is pure joy for the public. They have received fine write-ups after international engagements and enjoyed wide attention following the release of a documentary at the Tromsø International Film Festival in 2014.

Sámi Jienat means Sámi voices, and the choir reaches across national boundaries with members from Norway, Sweden and Finland. Sámi Jienat can be described as an aboriginal-nomad choir which has no permanent base. They performed recently in 2013 in the USA, at a Mandela Tribute Concert in 2005, and at the festivals Márkomeannu and Riddu Riđđu in our own region. The choir has collaborated with various renowned Sámi musicians and composers, such as the Southern Sámi composer and artist Frode Fjellheim.
