-You have to create something unique. The audience is not supposed to notice where hip-hop begins and the Afrobeat ends, - where tradition stops and the beat of the future starts. It's easy to throw together a bunch of elements, but what's important is to find where they intersect with one another.
- I have no training in musical theory. I don't know what I am doing, laughs the Ghanian-born New York-based Blitz. I do things a trained composer would never do. That's what makes it so interesting! Blitz grew up at a time when African rap was at its peak, but he was surrounded by a well of other music: Kora and drums, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, local rock and funk - all of this has left its mark on his music. Under årets South By South West in Austin in March, D. S Stith, The Statesman, wrote: - … my pick for breakout hip-hop artist of 2012 is Blitz the Ambassador. I would go see this guy any time any where. He’s that real.
