Ibrahim Maalouf is a trumpet player who is highly in demand and who delivers a fusion of oriental jazz, latin rhythms, Balcan wedding music, heavy metal and an Arabic touch along with intense improvisations.
Maalouf's upbringing in Paris by Lebanese parents is the basis of his musical education. At the age of 7 he began to play the trumpet with his father and learned Arabic musical traditions using the characteristic quarter-tones - a rare skill for a trumpet player. Further studies in the field of classical music were completed at the University of Paris. He learned jazz on his own and through gigs in jazz clubs, always looking to develop his own personal sound. He brings to the festival a band of musicians who will fill the stage with a soundscape that is monumental, beautiful, strange and endearing all at the same time.
